The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine Christof Weil on Tuesday.
The Parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Germany, and Euro-integrational aspirations of Ukraine.
In particular, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted that Ukraine closely monitors development of internal policy in Germany, functioning of democratic institutions, and stressed that "German experience in terms of strengthening democratic principles is extremely important for our country."
Volodymyr Rybak emphasized on the active role of Germany in the EU financial crisis recovery. According to him, almost all factions of Bundestag support measures taken by the government to overcome the crisis.
The chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted also the positive development of inter-parliamentary dialogue with Germany, which, in his opinion, "is developing very rapidly", and informed that a corresponding group of inter-parliamentary ties in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will be created soon, whose members will be able to visit Germany in the nearest future and meet with colleagues. "Currently, the people’s deputies of Ukraine submitted 108 applications to join the deputy group of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on inter-parliamentary ties with the Federal Republic of Germany," he said.
Volodymyr Rybak stated that he is ready to contribute personally to the bringing of inter-parliamentary dialogue between the two countries on a new level, which would correspond to the interests of both Ukraine and Germany.
The Chairman of the Parliament stressed that European integration remains a key foreign policy priority of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will strongly contribute to the successful implementation of this course, as a constitutional majority of people’s deputies are its supporters. The Chairman of the Parliament in this context reminded that on 22 February 2013 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Statement on fulfillment of Euro-integrational aspirations of Ukraine and conclusion of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada expressed hope that German deputies and government will support Ukraine “on its way to joining European family.” “I would like to confirm Ukraine’s interest in early signing of the Association Agreement and its entry into force. Of particular note is deep and comprehensive free trade area, the creation of which is provided by the Agreement,” he said and added: “Conclusion of the Association Agreement will be the best incentive for Ukraine from the point of view of further comprehensive reforms, strengthening of democratic development and rule of law.”
According to the Chairman of the Parliament, “Ukraine will be in the family of European countries.”
Volodumyr Rybak noted positive dynamics of trade-economic relations between Ukraine and Germany during 2011-2012, and stressed that both countries are interested in realization of the range of infrastructural projects as well as projects in the field of processing and growing of agricultural products and agricultural machinery, cooperation in transport and energy sectors. According to him, the cooperation in the sphere of renewable energy and energy efficiency, and increased cooperation between the regions of both countries are of great importance. “We are interested in expanding investment cooperation with Germany” the Chairman of the Parliament said, “I am confident that the measures undertaken by the Government of Ukraine in this area would promote improvement of investment and business climate in our state, and growth of German investments in the Ukrainian economy.”
In his turn, the Ambassador stated that Germany is “a true friend of Ukraine.” Leader of the diplomatic mission noted that the Association Agreement and Free Trade Area will become “the largest investment project for Ukraine” due to harmonizing its legislation with European and improvement of investment climate. According to Christof Weil, signing of the Agreement will give important incentive to the process of reforming in Ukraine and facilitate the development of business contacts. The Federal Republic of Germany and the EU are interested in signing of this important document. He stated also that Ukraine and the EU should jointly take appropriate steps.
In this context, Christof Weil noted that adoption of the Statement on fulfillment of Euro-integrational aspirations of Ukraine “became important signal” for the EU-Ukraine Summit that took place on 25 February 2013.
Christof Weil invited also all Ukrainian Members of Parliament to active cooperation on all the levels, in particular, on the level of friendship groups. According to the Ambassador, the intensification of the parliamentary component of bilateral relations will contribute to the expansion of political dialogue in general.
